Despite Messi's already numerous individual and team honors following the Ballon d'Or award being given to Dembele in 2025, McCoyest does not accept this discussion.
When someone mentioned that Messi still had a chance to win an award, McCoyest responded on talkSPORT Breakfast: "It annoys me. There's no reason for that in the world."
McCoyster added: "He doesn't deserve it. The Ballon d'Or is for the best player of the year, and he's not this year. Although he's won it before, he's not this year."
Who does McCoyest think will win the 2026 Ballon d'Or?
McCoyster has now turned his support to Harry Kane for the highest individual honor in football.
The 33-year-old striker has become a strong contender for the award after a phenomenal season with 61 goals for Bayern Munich.
Kane then scored 6 goals for England at the World Cup, helping the team to a third-place finish and continuing his hot streak at Bayern Munich.
"Who is his real competitor?" McCoyster said.
“I can understand Mbappe. Mbappe’s goal-scoring performance at Real Madrid was outstanding, and his goals at the World Cup were also fantastic.”
“But Harry Kane’s performance has been incredible. I also don’t accept the notion that you can’t get this award unless you win the Champions League or have a great performance in the World Cup.”
The Ballon d'Or ceremony will be held in London on October 26, where Kane, Messi, and other top football stars will learn the final results.
