According to Metro, former Arsenal striker Theo Walcott said Arsenal should have signed Chelsea midfielder Brendan Rodgers this summer.
Arsenal pursued Vinicius, Alvarez, and Rodgers but ultimately failed to sign any of their targets. Chelsea signed Rodgers for £117 million early in the transfer window.
When Walcott was creating a combined Arsenal and Chelsea lineup on social media, he had to choose between Zolis and Rodgers. He said, "I like Zolis, but I'll choose Rodgers. We should have signed him, sigh."
Theo Walcott wasn't the only one disappointed by Arsenal's missed opportunity to sign Rodgers. Ian Wright, speaking on "Stick to Football," said that Arsenal definitely needed Rodgers and that he would love to see the Aston Villa player join Arsenal.
Wright said: "You would say we already have those types of players, but that's exactly what Arteta wants. He needs a player like that in this position. Saka, Odegaard and Havertz are all back and can play together, but Arteta wants the kind of player who can change the game."
Wright also stated that Arsenal's approach to pursuing Vinicius had changed, potentially impacting their chances of signing Rodgers. He said, "Chelsea felt that if you weren't willing to pay that price, then we would. I'm disappointed; I really wanted to see him come."
Arteta previously stated that Arsenal did not regret selling Martinelli and Trossard. Arsenal also signed Guimarães, Konsa, Hinkapi and Zolis this summer, and signed Meslier on a free transfer.
